This Tart Cherry Lime Homemade Gummy “Candy” is made with grass fed, pasture raised gelatin for a boost of immunity and gut healing powers! This healthy homemade gummy candy is ultra kid friendly and great for grown-ups too. Made with 100% tart cherry juice, raw honey and grass fed gelatin.
Following up from last week’s full review of Vital Proteins grass fed collagen products, I’m bringing you a fun (and super tasty!) recipe for Tart Cherry Lime Homemade Gummy Candy!
This recipe uses Vital Proteins grass fed, pasture raised beef gelatin, which means that in addition to it it simply being awesome because it tastes like candy, you’re also getting major health benefits from the collagen protein.
Vital Proteins collagen protein is a 100% pure, pasture-raised, grass-fed gelatin powder. It dissolves in hot liquids and thickens in cold liquids (ideal for gummies and other desserts!)
The amino acids contained in gelatin are therapeutic and are identical to the protein found in skin, nails, hair, bones, cartilage, and joints. It’s gluten Free, rBGH Free, non GMO. It’s great for gut health and an overall boost to your immune system.
And if that’s not enough, I decided to indulge in my ongoing obsession with tart cherry juice and add to the “bang” you get with this recipe. Tart cherry juice is AWESOME for runners, as many of you guys might already know! Tart cherry juice has been shown to have some pretty impressive anti-inflammatory powers and is great for easing post-run soreness and joint pain/inflammation. It’s also loaded with antioxidants and has even been shown to help with insomnia! Is this the perfect juice, or what?
A couple of notes on the recipe before we get started. Although I purchased special candy molds to create fun shapes, you can also use a mini muffin pan with mini liners, or even pour the mixture into an 8 x 8 inch baking dish (very lightly greased with coconut oil) and then simply cut into squares or use cookie cutters for shapes. However, my family (and I!) did prefer a slightly bigger gummy for this recipe to get the full tart/sweet cherry lime flavor! Okay, gummy time – let’s go!
Tart Cherry Lime Homemade Gummy “Candy” with Vital Proteins
Tart Cherry Lime Gummy "Candy" {Paleo}
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup 100% organic tart cherry juice
- 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice strained
- 2 tbsp raw honey
- 3 tbsp Vital Proteins Grass Fed Gelatin
Instructions
-
In a saucepan, heat the juices over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
-
Lower the heat to the lowest setting and whisk in the honey until fully dissolved.
-
Now, whisk in 1 tbsp at a time of the gelatin, adding another only after the others dissolve. Continue to stir until the gelatin is fully dissolved, about 10 mins.
-
Once you have no lumps, just liquid*, remove from heat and carefully transfer the liquid into your gummy molds (sometimes a dropper is provided with the molds, which is helpful.) If you don't have molds, you can use a mini muffin pan lined with mini liners, or a very lightly greased 8 x 8 inch baking dish.
-
Refrigerate until firm (1-2 hours depending on the size of your gummies) then pop out and enjoy! If you used a baking dish, you can cut into squares or use cookie cutters.
-
I stored mine in the refrigerator, but these will remain solid at room temp. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes
*Don't worry if you have a couple of small stubborn lumps, if the gelatin is mostly dissolved, you're good to go!

Are you a fan of tart cherry juice? Do you believe in its benefits?
What is one recipe idea you’d like to see using Vital Proteins grass fed collagen?
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
I’ve never tried tart cherry juice but I think it would be good in this recipe! Rob has an obsession with gummy bears so I think he would like these. I love that they sound easy to make too!
Michele says
You should try, very easy! Any gelatin should work 🙂
Carol says
how many gummies can you eat that would equal 19 calories is it just one
Jodi says
I’m anxious to try these. I’ve been drinking the cherry juice for a few years (mixed in water) and i love the benefits but i am also interested to know approximately how many calories in each small gummie
Adam Neely says
Just some quick napkin math shows the juice around 130 calories, the honey around 130 as well, and the gelatin is about 20 calories. So being generous and saying 300 calories for the whole batch, if you divided it into the 200 gummy bear shaped gummies it would make, each gummy would be 1.5 calories per gummy bear sized gummy.
Eric Siegel says
Thanks- you are adorable by the way
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
So this is basically a gummy version of my cherry limeade recovery smoothie. Genius.
Michele says
Ha! Perfect!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious says
Crazy how easy they are to make! I was expecting a lot more complicated. So cute!
Michele says
No excuse not to make them, really is easy 🙂
Samantha says
This looks like a great idea for kids (and adults, like me!) who love gummies– is there any beef gelatin that is less expensive? I’m on a budget!
Michele says
I have used this one as well: NOW foods brand as well, most grocery stores sell plain unflavored beef gelatin as well and it’s very affordable.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
See now this is something you could sell! So fun! Who doesn’t love GUMMIES!
Michele says
Gummy bear business, lol 🙂 I think everyone loves them!
Alyssa @ renaissancerunnergirl says
Yum! Definitely going to be trying to make these as potential marathon training fuel 🙂
Michele says
That would be pretty cool!
Mel_OutRunCF says
They are so cute! My son doesn’t like dessert very much but he loves his candies and gummies. It would be amazing to have gummies without a gazillion ingredients that I can’t pronounce in them! Also, cystic Fibrosis causes chronic inflammation in the lungs so I’m always on the lookout for food/products with anti-inflammation proprieties. Tart cherry juice is now on my list of things to try! Thanks for sharing!
Michele says
Ooh yes do the tart cherry, and makes these! Really easy, my family loved them a little too much and they were gone fast.
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
Are those dinosaur gummies?!?!?! TOO CUTE! That reminds me of the little babies of dummies that my mom would put in my lunchbox when I was little… expect those were probably a little less healthy than these 😆
Michele says
There are dinosaurs and ducks and a few other animals. Might be getting obsessed with cute gummy molds, lol 🙂
Kristy @ Southern In Law says
The gummy queen is back! 😉 I am so glad Drew got you to make gummies as these look amazing!
I really need to try making my own soon!
Michele says
They’re so fun, really easy too!
Arman @ thebigmansworld says
Geebuz, Michele, I’ve just gone to catch up on my bloglovin today and got a slew to go through and what a post to kick off with- YUM! I’ve always been keen to try making gummy candy and you’ve made a healthy protein packed version. Also those moulds are pretty epic. The only moulds I have here are santa ones.. lol!
Pamela says
Where do you get molds for the gummies
Lisa McDonald says
Most stores that specialize in baking or craft supplies should carry some, but the largest variety would be on amazon!
Louisa says
Check out michaels for cute, affordable molds!
Susan says
Maybe try blooming the gelatin in some of the cherry juice prior to adding it so it will dissolve easily. I found this to be helpful:
“Blooming gelatin is a step integral to ensuring the smooth texture of a finished product. It involves sprinkling the powdered gelatin into a liquid and letting it sit for 3 to 5 minutes. Then, when the mixture is heated, the gelatin will dissolve evenly. You can bloom gelatin in just about any liquid.”
Michele says
Yes, that does make it easier!
Lisa miracle says
Can you use maple syrup instead
Of honey?? Thanks for any help
Michele says
Haven’t tried it but I don’t see why not. It might alter the texture slightly though.
Mary says
Hi
I made these and they are fabulous. I am wondering how long can you store them? I’d like to make a large batch but worry they might not keep for very long.
Thanks for the great recipe!
Hailey says
Why did it take 2 years after I bought my gummy bear tray to take less than 10 minutes to make!!?? I ask myself..i thought I needed a dehydrater..anywho don’t think you will need the honey..i just made an Apple juice version but added 1 tablespoon of multi collagen from DrAxe to it they came out great
Veronika says
Cant wait to try this! But 3g per serving? Is that for just 1 gummy candy? Thank you
Michele says
It depends on the size of your gummy molds but I calculated it based on 16 servings, which would definitely be more than one gummy 🙂
Sheri says
Hi. Is there anyway I can make the gummies harder? Like less liquid? Thsnks in advance
sher says
These are awesome! My nieces and nephew eat them right up and they don’t have all of the junk of processed candy. Thank you for the recipe!
Michele says
Yay! Thrilled to hear it!
Sara says
I made this and doubled the recipe. Turned out great. I just poured the mixture into a lightly greased 8×8 pan and cut them into 32 squares once they’d solidified, but am seriously eyeing those cute molds for the future. Thank you!
Michele says
The molds are fun! And happy this worked out well for you 🙂
Sheri says
I have collagen peptides, are they the same as gelatin? Sorry this all confuses me still. lol. Thanks
Olivia says
These are awesome!! I’ve made them probably once a fortnight for the last 6 months and have loved every single batch. How well do you think they would freeze though? I just find that I’m wasting some of my tarte cherry juice by it going off after being open for a while and I’m wondering if I could cook a big batch and then freeze until ready to bring some out?
Julianne says
I loved this recipe & am coming back to make a 3rd time. I’m not a runner, but in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy & vital Proteins gummy treats are helping me get the protein I need. The tart cherry is great for helping get a better night’s sleep. I wish I’d figured out about these earlier on in my pregnancy!
Lindsey says
My daughter and I just made these tonight. Awesome, easy and seemingly healthy recipe. However, though they’re still yummy, we both feel as if we’ve ate a cough drop but the minty feeling in our chest. Has anyone else experienced this?
Jan says
Mine didn’t turn out, the second time I made them. Still a liquid mixture. Help?
Jill Valentine says
These are jello not gummies sorry.
Wendy says
Has anyone here tried doing this with tart cherry juice concentrate? If so, how much concentrate did you use, and did you mix with a certain juice or water?
Diane Chavez says
Can you tell me how many of the gummy bears do I need to eat to equal a serving of the powder beef gelatin?
Annie says
Great recipe! But, it’s way easier to hold back a few tbsp. of cherry juice to help dissolve the gelatin. Just sprinkle the gelatin over the reserved cherry juice and leave to “gel” then you can just add it all
The the boiling mixture at one time, and it melts right in!
Claire Rostron says
Can I make this with collagen powder instead of Gelatin? Just trying to avoid buying something else but can do if necessary
Thanks
Lukas & Marcin says
Hello Michele,
I am happy to find your site and recipe. I used to buy prepared product (Tart Cherry Ultra Gummies) for my son , Marcin, 3 years old, suffering PFAPA. It helps him to recover quickly, and stay in better form when PFAPA appears.
I wonder, if anyone has similiar experience and can share it.
Now I am going to check your recipe 🙂
Best wishes from Poland,
Lukas & Marcin
Karen says
I made this with pom juice and the beef flavor (and smell) is overpowering. How do you get over that?
Phyllis Lankford says
Mine did not firm up
Is there anything I can do
Nidhi says
Hi! Very excited to try this recipe, but I was wondering if you need to bloom the gelatin before adding it in? thanks!
victoria says
How long will these last in fridge and if they are left at room temp?? i am going to make these and am really excited to try these!
Megan says
Used half the honey called for and added 1/4 tsp vitamin C powder for extra tartness, came out perfect!
Julie says
Any recommendations to prevent foam? We made this recipe and had a trouble with foam? Thanks!
Anna says
