This simple paleo smoothie has become such a favorite that I make it every morning! Just the right amount of sweetness, with healthy fats, carbs, creamy texture and added protein. Enjoy it daily for breakfast or as an afternoon pick me up or even a dessert!
In the past I was never a big smoothie fan but that’s changed a ton over the past year!
I used to be all about big, savory breakfasts (and I still love meals like that fr dinner).
But cooking every morning started feeling like a drag, plus I dealt with a bout of digestive issues that made eating every morning feel like a chore.
So, finally I decided to try out smoothies since I could pack a bunch of nutrients in and have it ready in under 5 minutes, and not feel stuffed either!
I’ve made lots of variations of this smoothie over time, adding in different fruit, yogurt, nut butter, and collagen or protein powders.
What I’ve come up with today is the smoothie I’ve been drinking daily for a few months now.
It’s soooo delicious and has it all!
- Thick and creamy
- Just sweet enough
- Healthy fats
- Good carbs
- Protein
- Ready FAST
Let’s get into the details 🙂
What You Need to Make This Paleo Smoothie
- avocado, frozen (you can freeze your own or buy it frozen, I’ve done both)
- banana, frozen (freeze them in slices ahead of time)
- frozen cherries or other fruit
- paleo friendly unsweetened yogurt, like Kite Hill unsweetened Greek Style yogurt
- unsweetened almond milk
- almond butter (optional)
- chocolate collagen protein, or plant based chocolate protein powder of choice (for a vegan option)*
How to Make My Favorite Smoothie
This is the easy part!
Place all ingredients in a small blender and blend well until smooth and creamy.
I’ve used a Nutribullet or Ninja personal blender for this smoothie.
It makes just one serving, but you can easily double or triple the recipe to make more servings.
Just use a large blender (Vitamix, etc) if you want to make more than one serving.
Ingredient Substitutes for My Everyday Paleo Smoothie
You can sub in any protein powder you like here for the chocolate collagen, like a plant based chocolate protein to make it vegan, or a keto protein to keep the carbs down.
I prefer the chocolate flavor with the cherries, but you can also use vanilla flavor too – it all works!
The nut butter is something I throw in most days but I sometimes skip it and it doesn’t change the flavor much. You can sub in any nut or seed butter, or skip it altogether.
For the yogurt, I recommend a nice thick greek style dairy free yogurt (Kite Hill has a good one).
You can also use any plant based yogurt that you want – I’ve sometimes even used flavored yogurt and it turns out great!
I’m thrilled to share my personal favorite breakfast smoothie with you today! I hope you love it as much as I do – enjoy!

Allergic to bananas. Is there a substitute for that or just omit?
Hi Michele, what chocolate collagen protein do you recommend?
Could you use collagen peptides? Maybe add a bit of dark chocolate powder?

This is a genuinely unique smoothie. I can prepare my own smoothie using the recipe.
I learned the hard way that almonds and almond milk and chocolate are very high in oxalates and can ruin your health. I’m still trying to recover a year later from eating paleo for several years.
