This simple and quick paleo cilantro lime grilled salmon is tender, flaky and so flavorful. It’s the perfect healthy meal for grilling season with a green salad or your favorite grilled veggies!
I’ve found a new favorite salmon recipe for the summer!
I started finding my typical grilled salmon with dry seasonings boring and wanted to try something new.
Enter this cilantro lime grilled salmon, with a sauce/marinade that makes it full of flavor, moist and tender.
It couldn’t be easier, and you only have to marinate it for about 15-20 minutes, so it’s quick!
Let’s get into all the recipe details so you can make it ASAP!
What You Need to Make This Cilantro Lime Grilled Salmon
Simple, fresh ingredients make this salmon perfect.
Here’s everything you’ll need to prepare it:
Sauce/Marinade:
- ghee
- garlic
- raw honey
- limes
- sea salt
- freshly ground black pepper
- cilantro, finely chopped
Salmon:
- salmon fillet portions
- Sea salt and freshly black pepper
- Lime wedges, for garnish
How to Make This Cilantro Lime Grilled Salmon
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the ghee, garlic, lime juice, honey, sea salt and pepper, then stir until all ingredients are well combined.
Remove the pan from heat and stir in the cilantro. Divide the sauce into two parts – one for marinade and one to serve with.
Arrange the salmon on a platter and sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper, then brush with half of the sauce. Cover and allow the salmon to marinate for 15-30 minutes.
Preheat your grill to medium heat and brush well with oil. You can also pan fry this salmon.
Place the salmon on the preheated grill flesh side down and cook 3 minutes. Flip and cook another 2-3 minutes or until salmon is cooked through.
Once done, transfer to a clean serving platter and drizzle with the remaining sauce. Serve with lime wedges and your favorite sides.
Tips for the Perfect Grilled Salmon
- Use skin on salmon – even if you don’t eat the skin, cooking on the grill with the skin on will keep the delicate salmon together while cooking.
- Make sure your grill is oiled to keep the salmon from sticking. I make sure the grill is brushed with plenty of oil to make it as non-stick as possible.
- Get the grill hot! Make sure it’s completely preheated so the salmon gets a nice crust from searing right away. Once again, this will keep the salmon together while cooking.
What To Served with Cilantro Lime Salmon
A simple green salad and your favorite grilled veggies would be perfect with this salmon! Zucchini, peppers, cauliflower, even sweet potato are all delicious.
I hope you love this salmon recipe as much as I do! Grab your ingredients and get your grill preheated because it’s time for the BEST grilled salmon. Let’s go!

I am excited to try this recipe! I was wondering if you have a suggestion to substitute ghee. I am allergic to dairy. Thank you!

We are dairy free as well. I think when I try this, I will sub olive oil or avocado oil in the sauce. It sounds amazing!

This was absolutely delicious. In fact my wife after the first bite declared “this is the best salmon I’ve ever tasted.” Quick and easy with simple ingredients, but the flavors are outstanding though I rarely measure and my measure of individual ingredients may be slightly different than the recipe calls for. I served with grilled fresh yellow and zucchini squash from the garden and the pairing worked quite well. Thanks for an outstanding recipe that we will certainly enjoy again.

Can this be baked in the oven instead of on the grill?

Sounds delicious! I am making this for dinner tonight! I don’t have salmon on hand but had already taken out some Barramundi whitefish for dinner, so will use that until I get some salmon.
For those that are dairy free, you can definitely substitute avocado oil. Another delicious option is the Miyoko’s Vegan butter. It is made with cashews and coconut oil, so if you do not have a nut allergy, it is a delicious substitute!
